Why We Built BWTools
Online tools used to be simple, accessible, and fast. Over the past decade, however, everyday utilities — like compressing a JPEG, converting an iPhone HEIC photo, signing a PDF, or generating a strong password — have become trapped behind paywalls, intrusive tracking cookies, forced email signups, and artificial queue bottlenecks.
Even worse, uploading private contracts, medical scans, tax documents, or family photos to anonymous cloud servers presents severe data security and compliance risks under regulations like UK GDPR.
BWTools was engineered to solve this fundamentally. Modern web browsers are powerful virtual machines. By compiling industry-proven open-source engines into WebAssembly (WASM) and leveraging native browser APIs, we bring full desktop-grade processing power straight to your browser tabs without sending a single byte across the internet.

The Person Behind the Project
BWTools.uk is designed, developed, and maintained by Jon Butterworth, a software and systems engineer based in the United Kingdom.
With extensive experience in systems infrastructure, IT management, and modern web application development, Jon created BWTools to provide a privacy-first, ad-supported alternative to corporate utility portals that monetize through aggressive subscriptions or data harvesting.
All code is rigorously tested against modern web standards across Chromium, WebKit, and Gecko browsers to ensure maximum device compatibility and absolute data isolation.
How BWTools Stays 100% Free
Maintaining web servers, domain registrations, SSL certificates, and continuous tool maintenance requires ongoing investment. We finance BWTools.uk through two transparent methods:
